The main focus of the project is to build up an Aquaponic system that will be based on brackish water to reflect the present day environmental realities of the Mediterranean region. Appropriate species of fish and plants will be chosen to withstand the brackish water. The system will then be compared with a fresh water aquaponics both compared with conventional agriculture. The scope of the project is to prepare for the future challenges of agriculture in the Mediterranean region and present a system that is efficient and profitable for farmers and industry alike.
DESCRIPTION OF YOUR ORGANISATION:
As leaders we are looking for a research institute or university with experience on aquaponics and water science from a non-EU Mediterranean country that is willing to join our consortium that is composed from 3 Maltese entities.
The Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area will devise new R&I approaches to improve water availability and sustainable agriculture production in a region heavily distressed by climate change, urbanisation and population growth
